A Message from Arcus: “This Moment Belongs to All of Us”
We are so excited to share that the Arcus Center for Social Justice Leadership’s podcast, Beyond Voting, has been nominated for a Webby Award! The Webby’s have been described by the New York Times as, “the internet’s highest honor.”
Our podcast delved into the toughest issues surrounding the 2024 elections. Our episodes addressed the questions on so many of our minds such as: how should our politics on Gaza impact our vote; what is fascism and why should activists care; what should we do if neither of the candidates represent our values; Is voting for a third party viable; and are our social justice movements ready for this political moment?
That the prestigious Webby Awards have recognized our work is a huge testament to the importance of social justice action beyond the ballot box.
We’re so honored to have been chosen out of 13,000 entries! Last year, some Webby winners were Michelle Obama’s The Light Podcast and Levar Burton from Levar Burton Reads. And, this year, it could be US! This is a huge moment to amplify our message of social justice, human rights and democracy. With your support we can win the Webby’s People’s Voice Award.
Please vote for Beyond Voting and, please share, share, share!
We are grateful to our team, listeners and entire community for helping us get to this level of recognition. This moment belongs to all of us!
Voting is open until Thursday, April 15th, 2025
Beyond Voting Podcast
Beyond Voting is not just a podcast; it’s a call to action. Emily Williams, the Executive Director of the Arcus Center and a gender studies scholar, brings her vast experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) to the forefront as she explores how all Americans can collectively reimagine and rebuild our democracy beyond the ballot box. Each episode features in-depth conversations with thought leaders, activists, and educators who discuss the state of our institutions and systems of oppression, offering actionable strategies to advance human rights, gender equality, and social justice including 2008 Green Party VP Candidate Rosa Clemente; author and cofounder of BYP 100, Charlene Carruthers; and social worker, author and activist Feminista Jones.

“We created Beyond Voting for people who care deeply about the world we live in and the conditions we’re under,” says Williams. “This podcast is rooted in the conviction that democracy requires more participation than just voting. It’s up to all of us to take action if we want to see real change.”
