Faculty Grants

ACSJL Faculty/Staff Grants provide support for Kalamazoo College faculty and staff to bring in a speaker or host an event, implement social justice pedagogy in their classes, departments, units and fields, and to engage in the production of scholarship that is rooted in justice and equity.  The total amount a faculty or staff member may receive per calendar year is $1500.00. Grants, in general, are aimed at assisting faculty members initiate new and innovative lines of engagement and/or research. They are not meant to sustain long-term endeavors or projects. Also, each faculty member who is awarded a grant must meet the terms of any and all previous grants before being considered for additional funds.

New or Revised Course Development or Curricular Initiative

ACSJL Course Development Grants provide support for Kalamazoo College faculty to implement social justice pedagogy in their classes, departments and fields. The goal of the grant initiative is to stimulate the development of course offerings and curricula that are rooted in justice and equity. The grant can be used to travel to workshops, trainings, or conferences, and or work with an expert in the field. Please go to Course Development and Curricular Initiatives Grant.

Please keep in mind that ACSJL faculty/staff grants provide support for new or significantly revised course or curriculum development. It cannot be used to support a class or project that is currently offered as is, nor can it be used to provide continued assistance in perpetuity (or indefinitely).  

Research/Scholarship Grant

ACSJL Research/Scholarship Grants provide support for Kalamazoo College faculty/staff to further the production of scholarship that is rooted in anti-oppression, new methodologies or epistemologies, and social justice movements.  A grant can be used to travel to do research or to attend conferences.  Please go to Research/Scholarship Grant


Annual grants range from $50 to $1,500. Please submit all forms at least 30 days prior to the first day support would be needed. Grant Applications are not reviewed during July and August. All grants, once awarded, are reconciled through reimbursements with the submission of receipts within 90 days of purchase or before June 30th (whichever comes first), and a one page summary of the work accomplished or an article about the work for the ACSJL’s online blog and resource Center, Praxis Center.
